Building Bridges: Building Bridges: Social Impacts and the Practice of Infrastructure Investment
ESG integration is a dominant theme in asset management today. Integral, though often garnering less attention, are discretely social factors. Investors in infrastructure instead have long recognized the interaction of social risks and social impacts and integrated them into their investment processes. With the support of Guggenheim Investments, a team of researchers at The Fletcher School, Tufts University, set out to understand this dynamic. The result is an extensive analysis of the current state of practitioner experience and practices when integrating social factors into investment decision cycle. How are social impacts in projects defined and measured? How are social risks assessed and mitigated and what are their effects on returns? Does effective integration extend to suppliers of services and capital? What is the discrete role and influence of stakeholders from owner beneficiaries to affected communities?

We invite you to join us in a virtual conversation of these key themes and much more. We are pleased to announce that leading this conversation will be an expert panel of practitioners that includes:

• James Andrus, Investment Manager, CalPERS Investment Office
• Rhianydd Griffith, Vice, President, Hermes Infrastructure
• James Pass, Global Head of Project Finance, Guggenheim Investments
• Christy Pham, Principal, British Columbia Investment Management Co.

The session will be moderated by Patrick Schena, Adj. Assistant Professor of International Business at The Fletcher School, Tufts University and a principal author of the study.
